Overview
You'll know from the very moment you climb aboard the Alaska Railroad you're riding on the best train in the world. The charm and scenic appeal of this great and vast land is amplified through panoramic windows and underscored by historical narratives of lifelong Alaskan conductors and tour guides.
Rail Experience Trains. Float planes. Motor coach. Air balloon. There are many ways to travel across Alaska. Some are more inspirational than others. Take for instance, the Alaska Railroad Adventure Class.
All along the magnificent journey (over 500 miles), through stunning scenic wild and panoramic vistas, guests are showered with thought-provoking commentary delivered by life long Alaskan tour guides. You might just find the stories, silly anecdotes, scrapbooks, and interesting historical narratives are the best part of the Alaska Railroad experience. Of course, the casual dining, breezy, down home atmosphere is quite a rewarding treat as well - and relaxing.
But you can't beat the sweeping views of Denali, award-winning glimpses of color-brushed tundra, and chance glances at moose, bear, eagles, and the occasional fox. As you can imagine, the train's grand picture windows come in handy for, well, superb pictures.
This delivered right to your assigned, and ever so comfortable, forward-facing seat in the lower level - with lots of legroom to stretch out - all part of the personalized level of service found aboard the Alaska Railroad's Adventure Class.
It's not just a catchy name - it is what it says. All Adventure Class passengers get to see what Alaska is like from the top. You are invited to mosey upstairs and take a turn in the classic vista-dome cars. Please limit your stay so all Adventure Class passengers can enjoy the spectacular views and running commentary from the conductor and service staff. And after a scrumptious repast in your dining car, wander down to the gift shop and find something for your friends and family back home. Something to go with all the other great memories.
Oh, and this is worth mentioning, one of the nicest features of all on the Alaska Railroad trains are the open-air vestibules between cars. Feel free to capture that unobstructed photo and to feel the crisp Alaska air in your face. Above all, enjoy the show.
The Alaska Railroad builds upon its unique passenger car fleet and raised the bar of luxury rail travel with the addition of its two new custom double-deck railcars. The new cars enhance the Denali Star Train that operates mid-May through mid-September. Guests traveling on the Denali Star Train may choose to upgrade to the new GoldStar Service. The popularity of the service has been overwhelming and more cars are on order for 2008.
Tour Guides Your tour guides play a major role in making the Alaska Railroad a preferred means of travel. They'll make sure you don't miss out on any historical or scenic points of interest. As a state-owned railroad, Alaska Railroad is proud to employ local student tour guides on passenger trains when school's out. Alaska Railroad's school business partnership gives school districts a useful classroom supplement while students get job training and career opportunities out of the deal.
