Day 1: London and Its Highlights Meet at the Gare du Nord in Paris at 10:30am and board the "Eurostar" high speed train for London. Arrival in the British capital at 12:30pm local time and cross the road to a two/three-star hotel situated just 50 meters from St Pancras, in the heart of London.
After check-in, the whole afternoon and evening are free to explore the many sights and delights this vibrant city has to offer - heritage, shopping, landmarks and good quality restaurants. Day 2: Onwards to Ireland After a buffet breakfast, walk to the nearby Euston station to board a "Virgin Express". Tur train takes you directly to Holyhead in Wales, via the green and pleasant English countryside. From Holyhead, take a fast ferry for the short sea crossing to Dun Laoughaire, Dublin's port.
A short train ride on the "Dart" local network brings you to a two/three-star hotel in the center of Dublin, where you arrive around 6:00pm. This will be your base for the next two nights. Evening free to sample the atmosphere of Dublin, capital of the Republic of Ireland; its many pubs, restaurants and landmarks await you in the heart of this charming town on the banks of the river Liffey. Day 3: Discovering Dublin After the trip across the UK and the Irish Sea, you have a relaxing day in Dublin today with the whole day free to discover the town... its monuments, its checkered history, its shops and byways.
To get your bearings, a one and half hour guided tour on a double-decker bus is included. Or you can hop and off as many time as you like during the day - ideal for seeing the sights at your convenience.
Lunch and dinner at your leisure. Day 4: Southwestwards to Cork and Killarney You have an early start today (you can have breakfast on the train) and take an Inter-City train southwards to the port of Cork, where you arrive around 10:00am. The morning is rounded off with a visit to the famous Blarney Stone and time free to see the castle, the village and the woollen mills.
After lunch, continue the journey towards the coastal town of Cobh (which used to be called "Queenstown" during the British occupation of this part of Ireland), ultimate port of call of the "Titanic". After visiting the town, take the train to Mallow and then to Killarney, a picturesque town in the foothills of Kerry.
After checking in at a two/three-star hotel close to the station, evening free. Day 5: The Rings of Kerry After breakfast, around 10:00am, leave Killarney by coach (the railway network in this part of the country is just a distant memory) on a coastal road of discovery; the Rings of Kerry - one of Ireland's most spectacular journeys.
The day will be one of contrasts between the charming villages you go through - Waterville, Glenbeigh, Sneem - and the rolling countryside. There is plenty of time to have lunch, to take photos, or to simply admire the lakes and hills.
At the end of the afternoon, return to Killarney to take a train to Mallow and then the evening express to Dublin where arrive around 9:30pm; snacks are available on the train.
Check-in at a two/three-star hotel in the center of Dublin for two nights. Day 6: Connemara - The Inlets of the Sea Leave early by train from Heuston station and journey westwards to mythical Connemara*; you can have breakfast on the train as you speed through the center of Ireland towards the west coast.
Arrive in Galway at 10:00am where you take a coach to Leenane, a town situated on the only fjord in Ireland. Continue the journey to the Abbey of Kylemore where you stop for lunch and for a visit of the Victorian gardens.
The afternoon is dedicated to a drive through the Inagh Valley, with a backdrop of the the Twelve Bens and Maamturk mountains. You'll stop often for photos and refreshments.
The day ends with a coastal drive along the Galway Bay before you take the early evening express to Dublin where you arrive around 9:00pm. The train has a buffet car for snacks and drinks.
* "Inlets of the Sea" Day 7: Return to Wales After breakfast, leave from Dublin's Connelly station at 9:30am for the port of Dublin and take the ship to Wales, where the express train to London is waiting. Arrive in London early evening and check-in at a two/three-star hotel a few meters from the station. Evening free to sample London's nightlife. Day 8: Homeward Bound After breakfast, cross the road to St Pancras; the Eurostar is waiting to whisk you to Paris where you arrive at the beginning of the afternoon. |
